The new president of the General Assembly of the UNO, Vuk Jeremic, announced today the composition of a high-level advisers trust for his presidency taking in account the former ministers of Foreign Affairs of Spain and Chile, Miguel Ángel Moratinos and Jose Michael Insulza, within this group.
Besides Moratinos, who was described as a “dear friend”, and Insulza, which at present occupies the secretary general’s post of the Organization of American States (OEA), the experts’ panel will count as well with Hassan Wirajuda, former minister of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia, and Yevgueni Primakov, Russian former prime minister.
The Serbian diplomat announced in press conference in the headquarters of the UNO that the ex president and former minister of Switzerland, Micheline Calmy-king, and the Ex-chief of the diplomacy of Kuwait, Mohammed Sabah Al Salem Al Sabah, have accepted his invitation to join the advisers trust.
” I am charmed being able to rely on his tremendous experience, his wisdom and wide knowledge on the matters concerning the international community” during the 67th period of meetings of the General Assembly, underlined the, just a few weeks ago , chief of the Serbian diplomacy.
Jeremic seeks with this new adviser trust, composed by diplomats proceeding from different parts of the world, to reinforce the role of the General Assembly and to compromise as well distinguished members from the civil society with the postulates that defends the principal organ of deliberation of the UNO.
Answering the questions of the journalists, the new president of the General Assembly indicated that the newly designated high-level advisers trust will not have any organized structure and he said that his members will not receive any remuneration for his work of advising.
” They have agreed to work for the presidency without remuneration and have showed disposition to give advices and to offer his good services when I requested them “, added Jeremic, who detailed that Moratinos and Wirajuda were last week in New York during the debates of the General Assembly.
In the last weeks different lists circulated along the ONU corridors with the names of possible candidates for the advisers trust, being the current chief of the Italian diplomacy, Franco Frattini, or the American ex governor of the state of Nuevo Mexico and former ambassador of Washington for the ONU , Bill Richardson, between them.
“Probably my presidency will not be remembered by one of the easiest of last times, but I hope to be able to work closely with all of them, as well as with the members of the General Assembly, in order to be remembered as the General Assembly of the peace “, concluded Jeremic.
