Launch of REDS, Spanish SDSN Network

The Spanish SDSN (Red Española para el Desarrollo Sostenible – REDS) was launched on January 13, 2015, in Madrid, Spain. Former Minister Miguel Ángel Moratinos, Teresa Ribera, Director of Institute for Sustainable Development and International Relations (IDDRI), and Jeffrey Sachs, Director of the SDSN and Earth Institute, led the public presentation of the Spanish network. This launch event was attended by Former Prime Minister Zapatero and leaders from academic, policy, and business. The network will focus its attention on three priorities for Spain: gender, energy, and water.

The network has already established a Leadership Council that will be expanding in the coming months. This group met after the presentation to discuss the next steps and some concrete initiatives to be pursued in 2015.

The leadership council is for the moment composed of the following members:

REDS will also be coordinated by different centers and instituts. Today the following have been invited to form part of :

Instituto Universitario de Enfermedades Tropicales y Salud Pública de Canarias, represented by Basilio Vallardes and José Gómez;  aula de Sostenibilidad (aSOS) de la Universidad Internacional de Andalucía, represented by Eugenio Domínguez Vilches and Carlos Montes del Olmo;  Instituto Mediterráneo de Estudios Avanzados (IMEDEA) represented by Beatriz Morales Nin; el Institut de Ciència i Tecnologia Ambientals (ICTA), represented by Jordina Belmonte.

2015 must be the year of sustainibility for the entire world.
